About Rabbi Hammond
Philip is a husband, father, author, public speaker, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Messianic Rabbi. During his 30 years of ministry, Philip has held the positions of Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor at the Judaic Studies Institute, as well as being the first administrator of Moriel Ministries. Although semi-retired, today Philip’s focus is on his passion for family and youth mentoring through the Emunah Center.
Philip was raised on a sheep and beef farm and served as an altar boy in the local Catholic church. His interest in biblical faith was never high and he became the typical prodigal son. After many years out in the pig pens, he was faced with making some life-changing decisions. He met a retired Baptist Minister who became best man at his and Debra’s wedding. Fast forward a few years and he became a Pentecostal minister – big change. Nonetheless, the journey was only beginning. He was to become the Australian administrator of Moriel ministries. This was back in 1996. Fast forward a few more years and Philip was challenged with a doctrinal question. He could answer the question from a traditional Pentecostal viewpoint, but couldn’t back it up with scriptural conviction. Another journey begins…
He began to study the scriptures with intent. He wanted to see if there was some validity in the Messianic Torah-keeping movement. This took a few years, as the change of biblical thought and doctrine was very different. This journey began a close relationship with Rabbi Mordecai Silver from Etz Chayim and resulted in ordination as a Messianic Rabbi. This relationship is still strong, and they have regular contact to discuss biblical matters and life in general. Philip and Debra founded the Emunah Center – a ministry focused on family. This is still the focus. After 30-odd years in ministry, Philip continues doing the work of His heavenly Father. Sabbath teaching, bible study, and outreach take most of his time.
Philip and Debra look forward to the return of their Saviour Yeshua HaMoshiach… until then: We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work. John 9:4 [LSB]
He serves JSI Yeshiva as Vice President, Professor, and Beit Din Member.
